Kicking off at the Cowra Bowling Club last Saturday night, around 90 people came together to help support the Cowra Community Chest’s push to raise $60,000 to secure a wheelchair-modified vehicle for 13- year-old Jacy Browne-Freebairn and her family.
Jacy's mother, Vanessa Browne said the launch has put the appeal in good stead.
"It was so just unbelievable, everyone really got behind it and people have already been asking when the next thing is," she said.
"Jacy had an absolute ball too."
With Ross Chivers on the microphone, the auction helped boost funds, along with the much-anticipated head shave.
While Samantha Murray, Tony Brown, Max Browne, Andrew Brown, John Clark and Wayne McKeown had plenty of time to prepare for the big shave, there were a few surprises on the night, including Jacy's grandfather, Barry Browne coming forward to lose his locks.
Having been crowned Minor Premiers that day, Cowra Soccer club members enjoying a few happy beers at the Bowling Club donated an impressive $400- putting forward Dave D'Elboux to have his head shaved.
While he was left with a patch, another $20 saw him walk away bald and happy with his new look.
Although they're another step closer to their fundraising target, Vanessa said more events are planned to help secure the much-needed vehicle.
"We don't have definite dates yet but we're planning a trivia night, fashion parade, a Wheel's Appeal which is very similar to a Relay for Life but instead of walking you must be on some sort of wheels, a comedy night, a Day on the Gardens, a live show and some awesome raffles," she said.
Cowra Community Chest will be hosting two movies at the Civic Centre, the first on Sunday, September 14 at 2pm screening 'Belle' and the second on Sunday, October 12 at 3pm, screening 'Satellite Boy.' Afternoon tea will be available at both.
A wood raffle will also be held by the Community Chest outside Woolworths this Friday, August 29 and Saturday 30, with all firewood donated by RFS.
The Community Chest will be assisted by Rotary, with the previous wood raffle raising $750 towards the appeal.
Coin jars are also being distributed around town and can be collected from Central West Credit Union and Lamps and Things for anyone wishing to help boost the fund-raising appeal. The jars are also available in the street or can be delivered by Cowra Community Chest.
Kaye Chapman from Cowra Community Chest, along with Vanessa thanked everyone for their support and donations including Cowra ANZ bank, the Cowra Bowling Club, everyone who did the head shave, Stephen Horden, Dean Browne, Absolute Beauty, Cowra Health Club, the Aussie Hotel, The Imperial, Nola Negus, Laurie King, Jeff Charnock, Ross Chivers, Lisa Jeffries, and Mick and Kelly Turner.
