The Japanese students and their staff are being hosted by Cowra High School families.
The smoking ceremony, lead by Steven Taylor and assisted by Harry Lambshead alerts past Aboriginal's of visitors to the Wiradjuri land and allows them to pass through unscathed.
The smoking ceremony was perfomed in traditional Wiradjuri languages and translated into Japanese and English.
Charles Gauci and the Seikei High School Principal, Mr Yoshizaki, walked through the smoke first.
They were followed by a few hesitant students, but before too long a strong line had formed, with all students, and supporters from both schools walking through the smoke.
The students will take part in a number of activities before leaving on Monday, July 28.
