Cowra and district farmers, residents, medical practitioners and rural workers have been invited to the free event by Department of Primary Industries (DPI) senior principal research scientist, David Hopkins.
"As part of an initiative to boost well-being in rural and regional Australia, Associate Professor Paul Lewandowski from Deakin University will discuss cardiovascular and mental health for Cowra locals," Dr Hopkins said.
"Dr Lewandowski's research program aims to better understand how nutrition can be used to treat or prevent the development of age associated diseases including obesity, metabolic syndrome and muscle wasting in cancer.
"With a focus on diet and lifestyle he is investigating the potential of food to treat age related diseases - chocolate, red wine, green tea and foods which are rich in antioxidants.
"His research has combined cutting-edge molecular biology and laboratory techniques with unique animal models and clinical dietary trials to treat disease.
"And he is exploring the potential of novel diary compounds and omega-3 fatty acids to boost health outcomes."
Dr Lewandowski was born and raised in Victoria's Western District and now lives on a farm on the Bellarine Peninsula. He has a keen interest and dedication to delivering positive research results that improve the health of people living in rural and regional Australia.
