Council are giving away 2800 native trees, shrubs and grasses as a part of Planet Ark's National Tree Day on Sunday, July 27, from 9am until 12pm.
Cowra Shire Council general manager Paul Devery said the tube stock available will include native species indigenous to the region such as white box eucalyptus, yellow box eucalyptus, Blakely red gum, melaleuca tea tree, acacia, she-oaks, and native grasses.
He said staff on the day will assess factors like the area that you live in, your local environment and size of your property in determining what native species you'll receive.
"The event is very popular and each year we give-away around 3000 tube stock to Cowra Shire residents. We [can] offer stock suitable and appropriate for your needs ranging from those living in units to large rural properties," Mr Devery said.
"Local Landcare groups including at Gooloogong also take advantage of the day for mass plantings of native trees in their areas."
The country's largest community tree planting event, every year over 200,000 people take part in National Tree Day events across Australia.
Since Planet Ark launched National Tree Day in 1996, more than three million participants have planted 20 million native trees, shrubs and grasses.
This year National Tree Day's theme, "Get into Nature and Grow" focuses on encouraging people to green up both their indoor and outdoor environments, as Australians spend more time inside.
