The men were up first against a strong CSU team boasting young 19 and 20-year-old students.

With plenty of reserves they looked strong especially with Cowra only scraping in 11 players with an average age of over 30.

With fears that fitness would wear them down Cowra started out strong and obtained an early lead through the trusty right boot of veteran Steve Ford, who is proving to be a goal scoring machine for Cowra.

Some minor mistakes in defence saw CSU score two goals to take a half time lead of 2-1.

In the second half, centre midfielder Rod Hayes showed his class and experience and took control of the game.

Hayes was everywhere in both defence and attack and his hard work paid off. After some nice team play down the right Hayes cleverly chipped the ball over the CSU keeper with great finesse to equalize.

Striker Ian Pattingale was causing the CSU defence all sorts of problems, showing the young players up every time he got the ball.

Matthew Reed was a force in defence, his pace being a real asset in chasing down the long balls from CSU.

In his first game as goal keeper, Ryan Hattenfels was very strong, showing confidence and pulling off some class saves particularly in the second half. With Cowra still controlling the game, the pressure was mounting on CSU who clearly were put off.

A well floated cross from the right straight into the penalty area held up nicely for a rampaging Hayes to hammer into the goal off his head, in a strike that even impressed the normally very measured midfielder.

Cowra continued to mount pressure with continuous shots on goal only just missing or forcing good saves from their keeper.

A counter attack from CSU saw them equalise with about 15 minutes remaining, however Cowra continued to attack and were unfortunate with one shot being headed off the line in what appeared to those closest to be a handball.

A free kick from Reed also came close with the CSU goalkeeper somehow saving it in the bottom right corner. At the final whistle it remained a 3-3 score line in a very impressive effort from the Cowra side.

Points went Rod Hayes three, Matthew Reed two and James Moss one.

At 3pm the Ladies kicked off against the Bathurst Colts. The girls for the first time in a long time were fielding a full team with even reserves on the bench.

Colts were short one player and the girls were keen to get back into winning ways after a few games of mixed results. Things started off badly for Cowra with Colts going up 1-0.

A few injuries to Colts players saw them reduced even further to only nine players. Despite this they seemed to be putting in a spirited performance and surprised the Cowra outfit who were not playing their best football.

A reoccurring thigh injury to midfield enforcer, Nicolette Pickard was a blow for the Cowra side who were struggling to gain control of the match.

Half time came around and it was spent trying to establish what was going wrong and furthermore, how to fix it in the second stanza.

Despite some glimpses of solid ball to foot passing skills the Cowra supporters have become accustomed to watching, Colts were still defending well and Cowra were unable to break them.

Some good work at the back by Breanna Burns, Cloe Lynch, Erin Bates and Claire Thirkell, meant that Colts rarely wandered into Cowra territory. An excellent passing game by Maddie Reid was creating the main attacking option down the right.

However it was a raid down the left by Bates that led to a nice cross sublimely finished by Courtney Gambrill that equalled up the scoring.

With ten minutes left Cowra had a mad scramble to try and salvage a win from a match that should have easily been there's.

There were plenty of chances and a dubious decision not to award a penalty to Cowra after Sofie Frenda-Briggs was shoved in the back however Cowra could not score.

Colts celebrating as the full time whistle went earning a point in very tough conditions for them, while Cowra were left ruing missed opportunities in what was one of their more disappointing performances in recent times.
