After being embarrassed last week when Fairfax Media exposed that there were four vacancies on the Anti-Doping Rule Violation panel, which had seven members until March 31, Federal sport minister Peter Dutton has formalised three new appointments in recent days.

After Minister Dutton was widely criticised for what appeared to be a case of serious and untimely administrative sloppiness - the ADRVP was unable to meet and consider pending anti-doping matters as scheduled last week - his office informed Fairfax Media late last Friday that Dr Peter Fricker, a former director of the Australian Institute of Sport, was one new appointment to the panel.

Two further appointments have now been formalised, with Paul Carey and Stuart Thorn joining the ADRVP that lost a wealth of experience in one hit last month when Minister Dutton did not renew the tenure of four expert members Tracey Gaudry, Karen Harfield, Andrew Hughes and Michelle Gallen.

It's undertstood that Minister Dutton intends to keep the transformed ADRVP to a body of six.

The most pressing agenda item before the ADRVP is the case of biochemist Dank who has been accused of committing more than 30 anti-doping rule violations by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.

The ADRVP exists to assess all cases that ASADA pursues and determines whether individuals are entered on the register of findings, which typically triggers the issuing of infraction notices. That process cannot occur without the ADRVP, which made the panel's inability to operate as scheduled last week so alarming given the status of the case against Dank.
