At around 4.15pm on Wednesday, March 12, a tabletop truck carrying 30 bales of hay travelling westerly towards Gooloogong when an off duty police officer travelling in the opposite direction sighted a small fire in the load of hay.
The police officer turned around and got the driver's attention and the driver and the officer attempted to put out the fire with extinguishers.
Local RTA workers working on the nearby bridge came to lend a hand before the local RFS brigade arrived and extinguished fire.
No one was injured however both the load and the cabin of the truck were destroyed.
Police inspector Gerard Powell said the fire was not suspicious.
