Inspector Frank Brown of Cootamundra LAC said around 3.40am an object was thrown at the courthouse and, as a result, smoke leaked into the building.
Inspector Ashley Holmes said it looked like the object was a Molotov Cocktail that was either thrown or placed at one of the front doors of the courthouse.
It caught alight and, while minimal damage was sustained to the door, approximately 30 centimetres of carpet was burnt but self-extinguished.
It is understood the police were alerted to the incident by a cleaner.
Matters listed for hearing will continue despite the attack, with court to commence at the usual start time of 9.30am.
