The Cowra community has shown support for school funding reforms recommended by the Gonski review of Australia's education system, according to the district's Teachers Association.
Teachers participated in a national 'Gonski Day' two weeks ago explaining the reforms to passers-by on Kendal St and asking them to sign a petition calling on the federal government to implement the Gonski report's recommendations.
The Gonski report, a national review released in February, found the schools funding system flawed and unfair and recommended a $5 billion investment in Australia's government and non-government schools.
"The general message of a fairer funding model for all schools was well received by the community.
They were happy to support the call for improved funding," he said.
Mr Johnson said the Gonski model is important for country schools where isolation can be a disadvantage.
"In regional areas we are at a distinct disadvantage because of the isolation even in Cowra. Schools need funding directed to the needs of students and there needs to be an improvement in funding."
