Cowra polocrosse players head to NSW titles

Two families make up the Cowra contingent heading to the NSW Zone Polocrosse Championships at Young this weekend.

David, Sophie and Samuel McKillop together with Cooper and Joe Sullivan will represent the Orange Polocrosse Club in some of the 50 teams entered at the event.

Although selected, John Sullivan has had to withdraw from the side due to work commitments.

David will saddle up in the 40s Men’s Division with Samuel taking his place in the Juniors (under 16s).

Cooper, Joe and Sophie make up half of the Sub-Junior (under 12s) side and look forward to the challenge of NSW competition.

The championships held at Toompang Racecourse, Temora Road, on August 4 and 5 is set to attract more than 300 players to the cherry capital and, with many state and Australian representatives in attendance, spectators will witness some of the best polocrosse action the state - even the country -has to offer.

It’s been three years since players of this calibre have descended on the racecourse and is an excellent opportunity for Young to show off the advantages this venue holds for such meetings.

“It’s a great family event and an unbelievable watch for spectators - there’s something for all ages,” Young polocrosse member, Kieran Davidson said.

Starting at 8.30am on Saturday, August 4, until 5pm, grades from sub-juniors, juniors, intermediate, mens and womens through to mixed, open and veterans will compete for a place in the finals, which will take place at 12pm the following day.

There will be free entry at the gate, and barbecue, all-day canteen and bar facilities (bar open from 12pm both days).
