Business focus not new, says councillor candidate

Local businessman and long serving board member of the Cowra Business Chamber, Tony Ryan, has announced he will stand at September's local Government Election.

Mr Ryan, who has been involved in business in Cowra since 1985, said he thought it imperative that a new voice be heard in Council regarding the Main Street / CBD Refurbishment and the Heavy Vehicle Alternate Route proposals.

"Hardly a day goes by that someone doesn't come into my shop either complaining about what is proposed or having a say regarding the timing of the bypass," he said.

"I have made a number of submissions to the committee both in person and in written form and believe that I have much more to contribute on these and many other subjects."

Mr Ryan believes that with the New LEP to be adopted during the life of the next Council, the way is now clear for Cowra to develop in a manner which has not been possible while waiting for the LEP to be accepted.

This is not just a new hobbyhorse for Mr Ryan as many residents will remember that he was Chairman of the Cowra Chamber of Commerce and Industry as far back as 1991/92 and has a wealth of experience not only in business in Cowra, but also working with committees and offshoots of Council.

Mr Ryan has also been the Chairman of the Business and Industry Committee of Council's Futures 30 before amalgamating it with the Business Action Group to form the present Cowra Business Chamber
