Gold Medal a "total surprise"

Rosnay Organic Wines has taken a gold medal for its 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon at the Cowra Wine Show while also sweeping up a silver medal and four bronzes at the event.

Sam Statham of Rosnay said the gold medal came as a “total surprise” after it had won bronzes consistently at past shows. Rosnay won silver for its 2011 Sparkling Chardonnay and bronze for its 2008 Shiraz, 2009 Shiraz, 2006 Shiraz and 2012 Freedom Mourvedre.

It also won an award for the best Local Red Wine of the Show for its 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon.

“For this year to get some gold and silver is just great, it shows we’re improving,” he said.

“We were quite surprised to get a bronze for our reserve Shiraz which is six years old. It shows Cowra reds do age pretty well.

“It’s almost like musical chairs. I think everyone in the region has had a go now and we were worried we weren’t going to get one.

"It’s almost like we’re all producing better and better wines each year.”

Meanwhile Windowrie Estate won two bronze medals, including one for its 2011 Family Reserve Chardonnay and one for its 2011 The Mill Sangiovese. Swinging Bridge, Canowindra also took a bronze medal for its 2011 Shiraz.
