Local stud Gererdan Poll Dorsets of Gooloogong has gained the best strike rate at Cowra's NSW Dorset Championships last week, the biggest poll dorset event in the state.
Gererdan Poll Dorsets' Chris Marr said it was the third time the stud had won the best strike rate at the event.
Over 220 rams, ewes and lambs were entered in the championship last week, less than previous years' events.
However the event's chief steward Graham Traves said entrants' quality was the best in 20 years.
"The judge commented the quality was outstanding, especially in the ewe class which was very even and very hard to split," he said.
Studs travelled from as far away as Victoria and the NSW New England region to attend the event, the second biggest showing of poll dorsets in Australia.
Chris Marr, also federal president of the Poll Dorset Association said: "It's important to put your sheep on the big stage to evaluate the stud's performance against other leading studs.
"The show ring is very commercially orientated with stud masters producing what the commercial producer demands."
Gererdan came first in the milk tooth ram-shorn, born after June 1, not more than 2cm wool category and fifth in the ram under 1 1/2 years, not more than 2cm wool category.
