The average Cowra resident is aged 45, married with two children, speaks only English at home, is either Catholic or Anglican and owns their home outright according to details from the 2011 Census.
Of the 12,147 residents counted in Cowra on Census night in August last year, 50.2 per cent were female while Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons accounted for 6.5 per cent of the population.
Residents aged 60-64 years made up 7.6 per cent of the population - the highest - followed by those aged 55-59 years at 7.5 per cent.
The median age was 45.
More than half of Cowra's residents aged over 15 are married - 50.6 per cent - compared to 27.7 per cent who have never been married.
Almost 30 per cent of residents were in education and of those, 27.3 per cent were in primary school, 23.2 per cent in high school and 12.5 per cent in a tertiary or technical institution.
The most common ancestries in Cowra are Australian - 34.6 per cent - followed by English, Irish, Scottish and German.
A total of 86.9 per cent of Cowra residents were born in Australia followed by England (1.8 per cent) and New Zealand (0.5 per cent).
The most popular religion in Cowra is Catholic, with 30.9 per cent identifying it as their religion, slightly higher than Anglican at 29.7 per cent and 11.3 per cent said they had no religion.
While English was spoken in 91.9 per cent of Cowra homes, of those who do speak another language, Greek was the most popular followed by Italian.
The median weekly personal income for people aged 15 years and over in Cowra is $412, while the median income for households is $785.
More than 60 per cent of residents (66.3 per cent) aged over 15 said they did unpaid domestic work in the week leading up to the census and 24.9 per cent said they cared for a child in the two weeks prior to the Census.
Couples without children made up 47 per cent of family composition in Cowra; 37.6 per cent were couples with children.
On average, each family has two children.
Homes are owned outright by 42.3 per of householders and 27 per cent are homes with a mortgage.
Cowra has 5,876 dwellings with an average 2.3 persons per household which have 1.7 vehicles on average.
The median monthly mortgage repayments are $1,098, the median weekly rent is $155.
