Australia Day bowls a success

01 Feb, 2012 08:38 AM
Last Thursday we held our annual Australia Day mixed pairs tournament.

Twenty-six teams took part with visitors from Young, Blayney, Gooloogong, Canowindra and Grenfell and, despite the weather, an enjoyable day was had by all.

After the completion of the two rounds there were eight two game winners who played off to the yardstick to decide who would share in the prize money.

The winners for the day were the Young pair of Therese Ruhl and Raz Porter who scored an impressive 14 out of 16 in the play-off and second place went to the Cowra pair of Brian Dunkley and Judith Day with 12 out of 16.

Third place went to Ruby Fogg and John Penyu after a further play-off while round winners went to Jo Davies and Alan Vorias as well as Joy and Quentin Murray from Grenfell.

A big thank you to the Australia Day ambassador, Krystal Barter, and shire councillor, Peter Wright, for being on hand for the presentation and thanks to all of the visitors who helped to make it such a successful day.

District Championships 2012

This weekend, Saturday and Sunday 4/5 February, the Lachlan Valley championships continue with all of the pairs events being played.

The open pairs will be played at Grenfell, the senior pairs at Cowra and the president’s pairs at Eugowra.

In the first round of the open pairs on Saturday morning Noel Hubber and Col Neilsen play John Joyce and Andrew Brown (Grenfell); M Reid and Tim Fowler (Grenfell) play Sam Brown and Steve Galvin (Grenfell) and Neville Connor and Russel Nobes play Josh Bohanna and Graham Amery.
