Under 13s representative team – boys and girls: We are trying to get together a team for the under 13s – Sunday, June 22: Dubbo Conference Carnival.
We need to know definite numbers. If your birthday is in 1995 or 1996 you are eligible. We are waiting to see if we can take a mixed side, ie: boys and girls.
If we are unable to do this our participation as a group may not proceed but we do need to know numbers. Please ring either Lynne Watt 6343 6330 or Brenda Hannan 6342 5761 no later than the long weekend please.
UNIFORMS: Almost at desired levels. Team shirts seem pretty good but the SOCKS are still a problem.
Remember, if uniforms are not uniform to the team strip then players cannot take the field.
This will be in effect after the long weekend.
The only exception are pool players, but teams should endeavour to match them as close to team colours as possible.
If you’ve played five games for any one team you are no longer considered a pool player! If teams or individuals have a problem acquiring their teams’ full strip then this must be discussed with the executive.
UMPIRING: A special thank you to Anne Garlick, Andrew White and Melissa Gourlay who took over under 15s umpiring duties last Saturday when some umpire duties were not fulfilled.
As a consequence of that, it is vital that all teams are aware of the following:
1. When an umpire does not complete their nominated match (without a suitable replacement or early notification) two points will be forfeited from their competition point score.
2. The nominated umpire, or team captain if no individual is nominated, will not be permitted to play their next match.
3. This rule is enforceable for each nomination not completed, ie. two umpire duties incomplete, two people forfeit one match.
This has been the case for some years. Without umpires we don’t play, so let’s be nice to each other and check the draw that was handed out in round two to observe your required duties.
Umpires exam: Further to this commitment is the requirement of each senior team to nominate two people to complete the umpires exam to be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 7pm at the Cowra Services Club.
Five points per person per team will be deducted for incomplete duties.
NSW Hockey will not allow us to offer the exam at any other time slot – we get only one attempt per year, so please do not ask if you can sit the exam at another time or venue. Examinees must be aged 14 or above at April 1, 2008.
We now have some committed badged umpires who are offering their time to “coach” budding or under confident umpires.
The list will be posted on the office noticeboard each week with relevant timeslots.
These wonderful people are super at teaching how to umpire – let’s utilise their talents. Any person wanting to learn to umpire or further their skills will be offered this support.
Please talk to Robbo prior to your designated umpiring duty if you would like assistance.
Tips for umpires and players: Hockey NSW has issued a series of tips for umpires and players. B. OBSTRUCTION: - Assess on these criteria: * Is the player trying to play the ball? Is there the possibility to play the ball? * Where is the ball? Is it playable? A stick over an opponent’s head to “emphasise obstruction” is NOT OBSTRUCTION! (It’s probably dangerous use of the stick!) Shielding the ball - penalise early to eliminate frustration of the tackler.
Lost and found - Lost: The White REP shirts are slowly diminishing in number. If your team has worn these at anytime please hunt through your wardrobes, washing and ironing baskets and get these back in please.
Lost: The white “junior” hockey balls are progressively disappearing from the under 11s. If you have a white ball marked “juniors” please return it to the under 11s.
Lost: under 15s team balls are also diminishing. Training gets hard with limited balls. Any balls marked COWRA, CDHA, Glass, ANZ, Elders Red, need to be returned to their teams or the canteen. Players should go after and return any balls they’ve belted into the boondocks please!
Lost: Mazon velcro hand grip strip from goalkeeper’s glove. This is a black strap 15-20cm long that the GK grips inside the hand protector used to hold the stick. It’s from Skye’s GK kit which was also used at the Lithgow High School game. If anyone has picked up this strap by mistake, or if it’s in another kit, could everyone look please. The stick hand protector can’t be used without it. It wouldn’t ordinarily be able to come out by itself.
BORROWED: If you have borrowed a GRYPHON CUB stick from the pink stick kit please return it as these are used for school visits. Borrowing and returning on Saturday is fine. If Brenda has loaned one to you that is OK to hang onto for the season.
Found: Red checked rubber-backed rug amongst the hill-sitters on Saturday. It is in the storeroom.
Found: Navy baseball cap with “NY” on front on Wednesday at training.
Volunteer to wash bibs: Looking great but boy, don’t they smell. Anyone want to volunteer to regularly wash these?
There is NO HOCKEY this June long weekend.
