Under 11s: The weather kept a few away, but the McDonald’s Cup must go on. A big thanks to all of the mums, dads and grandparents who braved the cold rain and windy weather.
Nuggets 1 vs Cheeseburgers 1
Nuggets: Well done guys, a big effort. Jade Te Weehi, Brody Farrell-Hutt and Matthew Gourlay played with great enthusiasm in our forward line, passing with style, paying off with a great goal scored by Brody Farrell-Hutt.
Our lone back Axton Farrell-Gray defended with a never say die attitude. The team effort was commendable. Our player of the match, a tough choice, was Jade Te Weehi.
Cheeseburgers: What a great effort, Cheeseburgers. Maddie Jones, a future hockey star we have here, her energy is dynamic.
Fraser Robertson and Tara Sanford made an unbeatable combination in our forward line, with Fraser scoring an unbelievable goal.
Sarah White kept her position well, guiding her younger team-mates on the field. Encouragement and player of the match went to Tara Sanford.
Great game by all.
Don’t forget Tuesday training at the hockey ovals with Dinga (Graham Bell) 4pm-5pm. We encourage all to attend as it is great for skills and will really improve your game.
Saturday we are hoping to split into four teams for our McDonald’s Cup. See you then, at 11.15am.
Green Big Macs 1 vs Blue Fries 4
Once again a great game by both teams. Fries swiftly clawed their way to the top scoring three goals in the first half with Madeline Pethewick playing her best game yet with brilliant defence making it hard for Big Macs to score a single goal.
In the second half, Fries were down players letting Big Macs score one goal by Kate Elkins.
Despite the numbers, Fries claimed another goal making the score at full time 4-1.
Players of the week were Lachlan Riches (Big Macs) and Madeline Pethewick (Fries). Bravo everyone you played well.
Correction from last week, Brodie Farrell-Gray should have been Brody Farrell-Hutt. Sorry Brody!

Cowra Glass 2 vs Cowra Smash Repairs 1
Cowra Glass: Glass were awesome on the weekend.
They were there early for training before the game and even though it was freezing were really warming up.
Ben Jones had a fantastic game and didn’t blink an eye even when moved positions all across the field.
Joel Watt was great as centre half and even when injured managed to come back onto the field for the second half.
Tom Baker played well and got us on the board with a great goal. Dana Hannan, James and Bianca Garling played well, supported greatly by Tara Sanford, Julian Garling and Brody Farrell-Hutt (our new under 11s) and Matt Ryan.
We looked fantastic at the back with Jamie-Leigh Gourlay and Peta Sharkey becoming a formidable duo.
Thanks Haylie Wright for volunteering to be goalie, there could be a future position for you! Goal scorers were Tom Baker and Joel Watt. Best players were Ben Jones, Joel Watt and Tom Baker
Cowra Smash Repairs: Cowra Smash got off to a good start even though it was very wet and raining.
John Clarke and Jack Baker had a couple shots at goal but just couldn’t find gold so they had to work hard as we were down forwards this week.
Tim Tarrant and Jessica Camps claimed the game of hockey this week by running all over the field to defend against Cowra Glass. Without them it would have been a different outcome.
Skye Pratt had a few run-ins with Cowra Glass as they tried to score and she showed them no mercy, great skill Skye!
Cowra Smash little ones are trying to find their places and doing well, keep up the great work!
Training Wednesday at 4pm. Congratulations to Erin Bates winning player of the week. Goal scorer was John Clark.
Best players were Sophie Clarke, Jessica Camps and Jack Baker.
Elders Red 1 vs ANZ Arrows 1
Elders Red: Goal scorer was Brody Hannan. Best players were Mitchell Gray, Andrew Francis and Brody Hannan.
ANZ Arrows: Well done, team!
You all played very well in extreme conditions.
We now know what winter hockey is all about.
Mel and Alex were kept busy in the backs making lots of tackles to keep Elders at bay.
Wow!
Sarah White had a terrific game in goal making some fantastic saves.
Matt played a few different positions during the game, putting in100 per cent effort. Christopher and Nic worked well together on the side.
Anna and Gemma both had a great attacking game. Kyle scored our only goal, an amazing one that left our team wondering where it had come from.
Blake, Eliza and Sam played their positions well, making a lot of great tackles and passes. Anna White was player of the week.
She covered all of the field, helping in attack and displaying outstanding defence.
Thank you for helping our less experienced players, well done Anna.
Best players were Alex Cassidy, Sarah White and Nic Banks.

Railway Hotel 11 vs Canowindra 0
Railway Hotel: While half of Cowra scours the countryside for Wally the wallaby, Railway was left asking, “Where’s Maree?”
Railway has owned the late time slot for so long, it appears the change to the early game has thrown players into disarray.
The early slot worked well today, with under 15s showered in drizzle and the late slot copping a downpour.
Railway, undeterred by the greasy pitch moved the ball well right across the field.
Dave Howarth joined us today with the impending departure of the indomitable Jack Nobes inching closer.
The strength of our alternating “bibs”, Spoon Falconer, Andy Howarth, Dave and Jack, was the key today with great back-up from Marion “the terrier” McAlister, Brenda Hannan and Jo Nobes.
Skye Pratt at GK had a long and chilly game in goal with the defence holding Canowindra at bay.
The forwards were on song today and belted shot after shot on goal, mixed with some clever passes and deft pushes to score. Opposing GK, young Daniel White, had his work cut out for him and saved many cracking shots, only sheer weight of attacking numbers and great goal attempts beating him in the end.
Annie Garlick was back today, worked well up front with cracking Carmel Dalton and our younger boys, Blake Falconer, Brody and Kyle Hannan again had strong games alternating in the front line.
Railway came away with a solid win. Best players were Jack Nobes, Brenda Hannan and Marion Rose.
Canowindra: The score does not reflect the speed and intensity of this match.
Early on Canowindra struggled with the Railway attack but as the first half wore on and the second half commenced Canowindra were getting better possession of the ball in the midfield but just could not hang onto it up front.
Daniel White in goal had a huge lesson in - there is only so many times a ball can be stopped before it eventually has to go in.
He played a game well above his years. This team was bolstered by a number of junior players who held it together well considering their opponents.
Best players were Daniel White, Hayden White and Bronwyn Troy.
LJ Hooker 10 vs Aussie Hotel 3
LJ Hooker: Best players were Laura Butterworth, Eric Hutchinson and Jamie Buckmaster.
Aussie Hotel: Goal scorers were Garry Smith, Jack Baker and Kristy White. Best players were Garry Smith, Jack Baker and Heidi Meyer
The Valley Hotel 6 vs Townhouse Hotel 0
Townhouse Hotel: A very lacklustre game by us.
Positional play flew out the window with the opening whistle and it was every man and woman for themselves.
Valleys played all over us.
There were sparks of good play, however, that kept the dream alive of getting a goal.
Tim Tarrant played well up front making a number of good runs.
Linda Jonkers put in a few charges up field giving the opposition someone to chase.
Grant Platt and Allan Hartwig managed to break their defence a number of times.
A downpour not seen at hockey for a number of years made playing tricky but all was lost by then.
Chins up, there’s always next game. Best players were Allan Hartwig, Emma Francis and Jainee Ryan.
The Valley Hotel: Goal scorers were Val Simpson (three), Sarah Brydon, John Clarke and Andrew Francis.
Best players were Andrew Francis, Valerie Simpson and John Clarke.
