Pollets dominate at world championships

10/11/2008 8:57:00 AM
The Pollets Martial Arts Club has made an outstanding and dominant return to competition winning four world grand championships, 23 world champion and 59 second and third place trophies plus a first place in the exhibition freestyle wrestling at the International Sport Karate Association World Championships held at the State Sports Centre recently.

There were over 900 competitors representing 200 martial arts clubs from 12 nations at the championships.

These nations included Australia, New Zealand, USA, England, Ireland, India, Germany, Japan, China, Korea and Papua New Guinea.

This was a five star event with the top competitors qualifying for the Australian team to compete on the official US Open tour next year.

At the finals held on the Sunday night, Hanshi Ian Pollet won the grand champion trophy for traditional kata and Hanshi Pollet and Sensei Danny Crouch won the grand champion trophy for self defence in a three teams Pollets shutout.

Sempai Cory Schumacher won the grand champion trophy for koshiki sparring against a much bigger and enthusiastic Kiwi in what was the best fight of the tournament.

The Pollets Martial Arts Club won the grand champion trophy for overall team pointscore finishing with an impressive 1400-point clear winning margin over the nearest club.

To go with the second and third places in self defence, the Pollets team were also second in Jiu Jitsu and third in showmanship in the grand championship finals.

This topped off a very good year for the Pollets Martial Arts Tournament team who also took out the national team pointscore, 21 national titles and 32 second and third places at the ISKA Winter Nationals held in south Windsor on July 27 at the Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium.

During this training time, Hanshi Pollet was invited to Okinawa to further his own martial arts training in traditional Okinawa weapons under the 10th Dan Grand Master Kiichi Nakamoto.

At the end of his training, Hanshi was awarded the rank of fifth dan in Ryukyu Danto Kobojitsu to add with his eighth dan ranking in Karate-do and Kempo Jiu Jitsu.

Tournament training continued while Hanshi was away under the guidance of his black belts.

Cowra is lucky to be located so close to one of the highest-ranked martial artists in Australia.

Hanshi Pollet, a martial arts World Hall of Fame member and former Koshiki national coach and president, holds regular classes in Bathurst and Orange from Monday to Saturday where he educates his students at all levels from white through to black belt.

As shown by the 1-2-3 shutout in the self defence grand championship at the world titles.

Pollets Martial Arts teaches karate, jiu jitsu, kyu sho jitsu and traditional weapons.

Students learn to compete a self defence system that gives them confidence, respect, discipline, motivation, improved concentration and fitness. Students are taught to reach higher, strive harder and set goals.

Pollets Martial Arts rewards achievement, teaches etiquette and encourages good health and hygiene, relieves stress and encourages inter-club friendship.

Classes in Cowra are held on Monday nights for seniors, eight years and over, starting at 6.45pm until 8.10pm with instruction by Sensei Warwick Schneider.

Club membership costs $25 per year and training is $15 per lesson.

All equipment, uniforms, guards, gloves and training DVDs are available from your instructor or from the main dojos in Orange and Bathurst. The Cowra dojo is located at the Masonic Lodge Hall in Brisbane Street opposite the Cowra Guardian.
