The other has fine tuned his training in the uncustomary crippling Australian heat.

So it comes as no surprise trainer Hakon Berg has admitted controlling the emotions of his debut fighters Garry Morrell and Matthew White will be crucial to the outcome of tonight’s fight night at St Mary’s.

The evergreen Berg, an accomplished pugilist in his own right, is navigating Cowra boxing back onto the map with his two latest charges.

Morrell has been in Cowra for the last six months preparing for his first competitive entrance into the ring after leaving his native Ireland, while White has stripped 30kg from his imposing frame in anticipation of tonight.

Berg acknowledged both will quickly have to come to grips with their emotions after long preparations.

“Boxing is very emotional,” he said.

“I have to take care of their emotions, all the other stuff comes later.

“Everything happens in this first fight. You will see who is in for it. Just let them find their relaxation and concentrate on their first fight.”

The trainer, who has been assisted by Dale Williams, admitted the fact boxers are again training out of the PCYC is a real bonus for Cowra.

“It’s so good to have, especially Matthew, who is from Cowra,” he said.

“He started so late and I’m just so impressed.

“I’m from Europe, guys who start that late never get that chance.

“Australia is a country of opportunities. They have showed that is possible.”

Berg said if the training of his two boxers is anything to go by, both should produce positive performances in their first amateur fights.

On Morrell: “He has shown good stamina in the training and he’s the best of the runners. He shouldn’t have anything to worry about in the fitness. I’m very hopeful.”

As for White: “He’s so dedicated. He’s so nice, a silent guy. He wants to do everything and do his best.”
