Standing room only for International Women's Day event

01 Apr, 2011 08:02 AM
It was standing room only when 130 local women

converged on the on the gorgeous Bunker at Mulligans Vineyard, on Sunday March 13 for the International Women’s Day event – Beautiful Strength.

Organisers welcomed everyone, bursting with excitement at the response.

“We had hoped for maybe 50 women to attend, to see over 100 lovely ladies in the room is completely overwhelming” Kylie Wood told the group.

Special guest author Tania McCartney spoke on how important it is for women to follow their hearts in life, no matter their dream, no matter the obstacles.

This created an atmosphere of inspiration and while guests enjoyed high tea styled treats, there was definitely a feeling of strength and empowerment and a buzz of energy and laughter.

Nerrida Cuddy from Canowindra blew everyone away singing an amazing song she had written, about the strength of women in the bush.

The morning was also held in support of the Hamlin Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. The Hospital was established in 1975 by Australian doctors Catherine and the late Reg Hamilton, specifically to treat obstetric fistula, a horrific childbirth injury.

Being an International Women’s Day event, this gave the women of Cowra a chance to connect with women internationally.

Through kind donations and the running of a raffle, approximately $1300 was raised on the day.

The cost of the entire treatment to cure one woman is $600. This is a truly significant moment. As a result of this group of women in Cowra coming together – we have enabled two women from regional villages of Ethiopia, be cured. It is life changing for those women, and a moment to cherish by all of us.

A huge thank you to the businesses that supported the day. Many of whom offered their goods and services without even being asked to do so. This kind of generosity really creates a sense of community and enhanced the nature of the event.

These businesses include: Cowra Guardian, Bryants Packaging, Souk, Style for Women, Country Gardens Motel, Imperial Hotel, Ambience Hair, Dream Body Retreat, MIWI Healing Centre.

Thanks again to the fabulous sponsors, Lachlan CMA, NSW Women in Ag, Mulligans Vineyard, Cowra Shire Council and Starr Design.
