Santa's popping up

20 Nov, 2009 09:04 AM
Santa installation plans and organising the supply of the famous Lions Christmas cakes signals the busy festive season is just around the corner for the Cowra Lions Club.

Each year the club helps spread the Christmas

spirit with its hand made Santas, created for shopfront awnings.

Club members have spent many hours making new Santas and repainting others in time for Christmas.

However, with only three Santas left, Cowra Lions Club are urging people keen to have one of their Santa decorations on their shop front to contact them

quickly.

The club is planning to install the Santas on rooftops in and around Cowra on Saturday, December 5, with the annual help of the Cowra Fire Brigade.

Ring Irene on 6342 6847 if you would like a Santa to appear above your building this year.

At the same time, the popular Lions Christmas Cakes have arrived and can be purchased for $10 each at Lionel Najor’s Cowra Cash Butchery, at Cowra Guardian Office and Kibblers Mitre Ten.

And just to add to the Christmas rush, Club members are selling tickets for their annual Christmas Hamper raffle outside Woolworths. The prize of $500 worth of Woolworth’s shopping drawn before Christmas is a great incentive to “be in it”.

Among other local projects, Lions will be assisting Brooke Sargeant with her Telstra Childflight Appeal by running the Chocolate Wheel and cooking a barbecue on Saturday 28th November.

They will also be building a sandpit for Post School Options in the near future.

Lions Club International is the largest service club in the world.

There are 44,500 Lions Clubs in 203 countries with 1.3 million members.

Cowra Lions have been operating for nearly 50 years in Cowra.

Cowra Lions Club has seen a considerable increase in membership so far this year and will be happy to welcome even more.

President Dick Bell 63423640 and Secretary David Thomas 63424912 would be happy to invite interested people to one of their meetings to hear about the many activities and the comaraderie that becoming a Lion can offer whilst assisting to build and strengthen our local community.
