Man’s best friend is the star of the show

Man’s best friend will feature in Cowra this weekend when the Cowra Kennel Club hosts its annual show at the Cowra Showground.

The club is delighted with a super entry of over 700 dogs each day.

Organisers believe this may be a record entry for the past five years.

An international judging panel will be on hand with judges from New Zealand, Queensland and NSW running their eyes and hands over some of the best dogs in NSW.

Dog Show judging is done in what breeders call “group order”.

Toys is Group 1 and has dogs like Cavalier King Charles, Maltese Pekinese Pomeranian Pugs etc.

Group 2 has Australian Terriers, Jack Russells, Fox Terrier, Skye Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers plus other breeds as well.

Group 3 is Gundogs and includes the likes of Labradors, Cocker Spaniels, Golden Retrievers and English Setters etc.

Group 4 is the Hound Group where we find the Afghan Hound, Basset, Beagle all types of Dachshund, Saluki and Whippet etc.

Group 5 is the working dog group.

Where we have the Australian cattle dog, Australian kelpie border collie, Polish Lowland Shetland Sheepdog Swedish Valhund and the Welsh Corgis etc.

Group 6 is the Utility group where we find the Akita Boxer, Dobermann, Rottwiler, Samoyed, Schnauzers and Siberian Husky etc.

Group 7 the last group is called the Non Sporting group. Here is found the British bulldog, Dalmation, Great Dane, Poodles and Shistzu etc.

The Cowra Kennel Club invites the public to come and find out just how special a dog can be and all about the breeds they are interested in.

They would also be delighted to offer assistance and advice on breeds.

REMEMBER WHEN YOU BUY A PEDIGREE DOG YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WILL GET.

With so called designer dogs one doesn’t have the history of what we get and also breeders of pedigree dogs have to abide by a code of ethics as we are all members of Dogs NSW and have to be responsible in their breeding programs etc.

We will be at Cowra showground from 9am to approx 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
