Cowra residents lined the footpath of Fitzroy Street from 8am yesterday morning waiting for the doors of Cowra’s latest supermarket to open.

Aldi opened at 9am and a stream of enthusiast shoppers burst through the doors to get a stash of Christmas presents.

Christine Norton, Dianne Wojcik and Lesley Casey said they were there from 8am hoping to bag presents for Christmas.

“I will get a Swag and come back this afternoon and get my groceries,” Ms Casey said of her shopping intentions.

Both Lesley and Dianne say they used to shop regularly at Woolworths whilst Christine said she is a regular shopper Coles, but with ALDI opening, they have all said they are willing to give the new supermarket a chance.

The new store will be open Monday to Wednesday 9am – 7pm, Thursday 9am – 9pm, Friday 9am – 7pm, Saturday 8.30am - 6pm and Sunday 9am – 6pm.

Upwards of 15 new jobs have been created at the Cowra ALDI store.
