Only 70 students were selected for the camp in an area that stretches as far west as Broken Hill.

The Year 8-11 Cowra students successfully passed an audition where they had to submit a DVD of themselves performing a dance routine, with all students choosing the contemporary dance style.

The students are also members of Cowra Ballet School’s Torsion Youth Choreography Ensemble.

Dance has been making a strong return to Cowra High after they gained the expertise of Dance Teacher Alison Buckley for classes every Wednesday through the National Partnerships program.

Ms Buckley, who also teaches Dance at Young High School on a Monday and Tuesday, said it was “really important for students to have this opportunity [at the camp]”.

“It will have artists from Sydney and Melbourne and they get a chance to experience all dance styles such as hip-hop, contemporary and composition.”

Six Year 11 students and two Year 12 students are currently studying dance as part of their HSC studies every Wednesday, taught by Ms Buckley.

The two Year 12 students were studying the course by correspondence last year.

It is followed by the newly-formed Cowra Dance Group which is comprised of twenty Year 7-12 students who rehearse from 2pm-3pm in what is designated sport time.

They are currently in the process of submitting their audition for this year’s School’s Spectacular.
