Break in free weekend

05 Dec, 2008 09:55 AM
For the first time in weeks Cowra did not experience a break and enter last weekend and that is the way Cowra police officers want to keep it.

Residents and business owners have started to get the message that they can not leave doors or windows unlocked or leave valuables in sight in cars.

Inspector Anthony McLean of Cowra Police said despite the obvious

improvement Cowra people need to keep reporting crime or any suspicious activity.

“Sometimes when people ring the call goes through to Orange,” Inspector McLean said.

“Often this is because Cowra officers are out and about.

“People can still report an incident to Orange because the officers there will then get in contact with us.”

Police will prioritise and if the incident is a priority, police will get there sooner.

“The community has the right to know when police will attend though, so please ask when reporting a crime,” Inspector McLean added.

Inspector McLean said the Police Assistance Line (PAL) and Crimestoppers are other options that residents can use when wishing to contact the police.

“PAL is a option for people to report crime but if you want a police officer to take your report you have the right for that to happen.

“When reported to PAL, officers will assess the situation and officers can be

dispatched.

“Crimestoppers is more for people to report information. It is important people tell us what is going on and if people see suspicious activity, call us,” Inspector McLean said.

The number for PAL is 131444 and Crimestoppers 1800 333 000.
